Description
How does she do that? How is it possible that a 62' boat with a hull design from the 20's gets up on plane within seconds? The answer is that BREAKAWAY is a Huckins with a QUADRACONIC HULL designed by Frank Pembroke Huckins. Frank invented this incredibly advanced hull design in 1928 and his hull design, one of the first truly planing hull designs became a part of the legendary PT series of military watercraft. The hull design was considered to be pure genius. The hull design combined with what might be considered a precursor to the carbon fiber building techniques of today's world, created a fast and efficient ride that blew everyone out of the water.
BREAKAWAY has benefited from knowledgeable owners who truly appreciated her wonderful attributes as a fine world class cruising motor yacht. Between 1996 and 1999, BREAKAWAY underwent an extensive restoration project at the legendary Huckins shipyard in Jacksonville Fl. During this time, she was repowered with 600 Hp CATS 3176B. Improvements on the lower helm and bridge deck were also a part of this restoration at Huckins. In 2001 she was sent to a Hinckley shipyard for a new galley. 2017 was a great year for a superb gleaming AwlGrip paint job. Between 2020 and today she has received both mechanical and cosmetic upgrades including new Awlgrip topsides (2022), underwater lights, new water tanks, new wiring, new Air Conditioning, new fore deck, etc. As a custom live aboard powerful cruising machine, BREAKAWAY has provided her current family incredible cruising and living aboard memories that will last for generations. Her easy access to the water and a large cockpit area allows her to participate in a variety of water sports. But the time has come for a change in lifestyle. BREAKAWAY never fails to raise heart rates and to cause downright awe and envy whenever she glides by. Perfectly at home on the hook in the islands or having the weekend BBQ at the sand bar, she is ready to go and provide another family with more adventure and stories to tell. Easy to preview in Fort Lauderdale the yachting capital of the world. Courtesy showings and video walk throughs are available.
Grab your bathing suits, a few munchies, libations and head out to explore. BREAKAWAY IS READY!!

ACCOMODATIONS
As you walk up to BREAKAWAY, one is immediately struck by her aggressive stance on the water. Absolutely gleaming topsides which are accented with bright work are truly a delight to behold. Her in hull bow lights are an immediate attention grabber. Tall stainless-steel railings topped with teak are so appealing.
Stepping aboard BREAKAWAY through the aft boarding gate one enters the helm deck/ upper saloon area of BREAKAWAY. Looking aft one sees the stainless-steel ladder that accesses the bridge deck to starboard. Located all the way aft is a very comfortable custom semicircular settee with tables located on either end. To port there is a newly covered straight settee that was delivered on October 10, 2024. There is storage and access to the davit motor located under this settee. The teak and holly flooring is visually appealing. The amazing 360-degree view from this area is stunning. New STRATA GLASS enclosure is spectacular and keeps this fully air-conditioned area ice cold as needed while allowing for unlimited vistas. There are 2 pilothouse pocket doors to access the forward deck and one door to access the cockpit area. Located forward is the helm command station with a built-in wet bar area just aft of the rolled and tufted helm seating. The overhead is accented with teak battens giving one that lovely classic feel to this area. Recessed overhead lighting combined with the totally upgraded curtesy and mood lighting makes this area a delight to lounge in whether it is day or night. Flat screen TV, and JL speakers create a great gathering spot for catching the latest sporting event or reviewing the days Go Pro Camera videos.
The lower helm looks like it belongs in the cockpit of a 777 but maintains the flavor of the classic motor yacht. An array of electronics and engine controls are at one's fingertips and the wooden clad steering wheel takes one back to a much simpler place in time.
But hidden away under all of this gorgeous woodwork one will find updated electrical panels, ice maker locker, storage, etc. To starboard is the stainless-steel ladder leading up to the flybridge. The fly bridge has ladder backed helm sets, a newer Bimini and a new davit. (2022)
Proceeding down 3 stairs through a locking privacy door into the lower saloon one again enters a warm comfortable lower saloon with an abundance of natural lighting. Windows grace three sides of the lower saloon. The side windows have both mood lighting built in as well as custom window treatments. Both sides of the lower saloon have built in storage lockers. Forward there is also more built-in storage beneath the forward windows. These front windows have a new Textaline screen. The white overhead has teak battens. To port there is a very comfortable chair that faces the semicircular settee located to starboard. The large flat screen TV in combination with the Bose system can provide hours of entertainment. Located aft and to the inboard side of the settee is a very cool feature of this unique yacht. BREAKAWAY has a built in storge locker disguised as an end table that contains 4 foldable wooden chairs. The sole is carpeted in a neutral tone.
Proceeding forward and down 3 steps through a privacy door one enters the extremely well-appointed HINCKLEY galley. This galley spans the full beam of BREAKWAY. There are opening port lights and an overhead hatch. Vast Corian counter space (in excess of 20 sq. ft) combined with numerous raised paneled high gloss cherry cabinets are a sea going chef's delight. Teak and holly sole reflects the white overhead. Upgraded newer appliances just add such a major degree of usability to this galley.
Forward of the galley is the third stateroom or crew quarters for BREAKAWAY. Over under berths are located to port and directly across from the berths is a large commodious head with a good-sized separate shower stall, medicine cabinet and silver antique door handles and hardware. VERY cool and unique. You will not find this type of silver hardware at your local West Marine Store. Forward of the head and still on the starboard side is very large hanging locker. All the way forward is access to the chain locker. One can determine how well a yacht of any age but particularly of this vintage, how well maintained the yacht is by the smells. OR AS IN THE CASE OF BREAKAWAY, THE TOTAL LACK OF SMELLS!! open the chain locker, poke your nose under the galley or head sinks and check out the bone-dry spaces found in the bilges and everywhere else below deck in this magnificent vessel.
As we retrace our steps back across the galley, we realize that the stairs leading up to the lower saloon do indeed open. Below the lower saloon and accessible from the galley is a very large storage/ pump room complete with diamond plate, batteries in proper storage boxes, AC compressors, water heater, inverter room, and volumes of dry storage.
Back up and across the lower saloon, we go down three stairs to te owner and guest suites. Immediately to starboard is a side-by-side twin stateroom with a substantial hanging locker (with brass pull out clothes hanging pole) and large built-in dresser with 5 drawers. The wicker headboards are a delight to the eye and so in line with BREAKWAY'S heritage. Two opening port lights with custom window treatments just seem to flow with the neutral carpet and white overhead.
Across the hallway from the guest stateroom is the custom tiled guest/day head. A LECTRA SAN head system is a true upgrade. Again, beautiful and unique faucet, hardware, and hand hammered copper sink are to be found here. The separate shower stall still carries the 6'1" headroom.
Proceeding aft, there is a walk-in hanging locker located to port and the master stateroom is directly aft with an oversized berth. There are opening port lights, an aft door exiting to the cockpit and lots of bright natural lighting. The ensuite head is amazing. Custom tropical tiles, 3 medicine cabinets and a deep tub/shower combo complement the custom wall coverings.
Tracing our steps back towards the lower saloon, we find another very dry storage area under the stairs. Water pumps and various equipment are located in this area.
