Research Vessel Pluteus

-R/V Pluteus is a 1970, 42-foot, aluminum construction (hull, cabin, mast, booms, everything), twin engines/screws/rudders vessel.

-Has a beam of 13-feet, drafts 3.5 ft, masthead height of 28 ft and a 15-ton displacement.

-The engines are two 6V53N GM Diesels and a Northern lights diesel generator.  Both main engines were rebuilt with new blowers in October 2021.  All engines are wet exhaust.  With a 450 gallon fuel capacity. 

-Vessel is equipped with radar, GPS/plotter/radio/depth finder.

-Generator supplies single phase, 12kw, 240/120 volt.

-Beyond standard running rights (port/stbd/aft/fwd/anchor) lights, the vessel also has light configurations for towing/restricted in its ability to maneuver.

-Equipped with a double-drum hydraulic winch with 500 ft of 7/16 cable and 1000 feet of ¼” cable.  Also equipped with a boom and “A”-frame for gear deployment/recovery.

-The vessel originally worked on the east coast with the name R/V Skimmer.  It was brought to the west coast in the year 2000, renamed R/V Pluteus and operated out of Charleston Oregon for the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB).

-Aft deck has flush mount watertight hatches for lazarette and main hold area.

-Bow area has bunk beds, porta-potty and storage.

-Engine room access via watertight door from bow berthing area and/or top hatch (with small ladder) going down from main cabin.
