Alberg 29

A Rare Find, “Serenity” is one of the last of only eighty Alberg 29 sailboats built, from Allen Nye Yachts in Ontario, CA. The late Allen Nye was president of JJ Taylor & Sons, builder of the famed Contessa 26 sloop, before starting his own boat-building operation. Federally registered, “Serenity” was a custom build, trimmed with additional teak, and custom teak transom name placard, which adds to her already classic looks. She is a very stout and seaworthy yacht, and has carried her current owners safely and comfortably throughout the Southern New England waters and islands for the past several years. Yard maintained, she’s benefitted from recent upgrades (full list below) by her current owners, including a new mainsail (2023) and chart-plotter (2023).
The Alberg 29 improved on the legendary Alberg 30, with a keel stepped mast, fully encapsulated lead keel, firmer bilges, and 44% ballast/displacement ratio. She is a true blue-water sailboat, and the trans-Atlantic voyage of another Alberg 29, “Long Reach”, is well documented. She is very comfortable in a seaway, and cuts smoothly through wakes and chop, thanks to her traditional hull shape from the desk of acclaimed designer, Carl Alberg.
“Serenity” stands out from the production boat crowd with real character. Teak and bronze are plentiful. All of the deck hardware is bronze, including winches, cleats, chocks, dorades, and port lights. The cabin is warm and inviting, with a teak and holly sole, and museum quality joinery. It remains light and airy, with 10 bronze port lights (6 opening), and one opening hatch. Very spacious feeling for a boat of this size and style, she compares favorably to her close cousins, the Cape Dory 28 and 30. Capable of sleeping 5, with the quarter berth. A unique and fantastic feature, the backrest of both settees folds up to provide very generous sleeping berths.
