STRB ENGINE TOP END W5 SERVICE DONE WITHIN PAST FEW MONTHS INCLUDED RECONDITIONED CYLINDER HEADS, NEW VALVES, SPRINGS, SEALS, NEW INJECTORS, GSKTS, VALVE LASH ADJUSTMENT. AFTER SERVICE SEA TRIALED VESSEL PERFORMED EXCELLENT.
PORT ENGINE: MTU 6r183 600hp replaced new in 2010 CLEAN low hrs
STRB ENGINE: MTU 6r183 600hp Original 1995. Cylinders showed moderate wear but engine ran well. W5 service performed complete top end job.
RAN PERFECT UNTIL 12/23/24. Then STRB ENGINE suddenly lost power and appears to be seized. Didn't lose oil pressure or overheat according to the instruments. Loss happened at cruise speed 1900rpm, 60+ psi oil press, temp about 170 degrees.
Coolant appears normal
Oil appears normal
I'm baffled! I have not opened engine up anywhere for internal inspection. Possibly injection pump or gearbox input shaft seized or cylinder or crank. I don't have time I'm moving on. Finish her up and easily worth $145-$165k. YES SHE CAN BE DRIVEN ON ONE MOTOR! Overhaul parts readily available. These are simple 12 valve, 6 cylinder mechanical injected Mercedes OM447 truck engines marinized by MTU.
I have all schematics electrical, factory engine repair, service & parts manual.
