Meticulously built for strength and safety, Sonata is outfitted for ocean-going or island hopping, where ever your dreams may take you! Quality craftsmanship in mohagany, teak, and Alaska yellow cedar, make for impressive interior details in this very comfortable cruiser. She is disigned for single hand sailing and moves well in light air.
Sonata is not a production boat nor is she homemade. Her first owner a German engineer supervised and assisted in her construction in Costa Mesa. He began with a Westsail 39 hull which is similar to a Passport, Pacific Seacraft and Valiant. He had her built strong for offshore safety and endurance. If you value quality over brand name, she’s the boat for your sailing adventures.
Sonata was professionally repowered with a Beta 38 in 2018. Main sail and staysail were replaced new in 2017, and Iverson dodger and bimini were custom installed in 2018. The teak deck is laid in epoxy without screws, reducing potential deck leaks. All plywood used in construction is Bruynzeel Okume Marine ply. Under the deck and from the waterline up, the hull is insulated with 2" of closed cell polyurethane foam and covered by Alaskan yellow cedar.
