2016 Nordhavn 59 Coastal Pilot

As you walk aboard INDEPENDENCE you will enter the cockpit from the extra-large swim step. The port side of the cockpit has engine room access through a watertight Diamond Seaglaze door. Access to the raised “California Deck” is up a few steps on the starboard side. The California deck of INDEPENDENCE has been very well thought out to maximize versatile use, and the deck is non-skid for low maintenance. Both port and starboard sides have hinged lexan doors to cut down any wind experienced. There is a soft hatch in the event large equipment from the engine room needs to be removed or installed. Loose teak deck furniture provides a beautiful raised seating and outdoor dining area, but can be stowed away easily if rough weather dictates. The boat deck is accessed from a stainless-steel ladder with FRP steps on the port side of the California deck. From the California deck one will enter the salon through a glass sliding door. The forward port side of the salon is equipped with a comfortable “L” shaped settee and dinette. The aft starboard side of the salon provides private access to the master stateroom downstairs. Starboard side, mid salon is another settee facing inboard which makes for a great conversation area with the helm seat & port side settee. The 42” salon TV is located on the forward side of the galley bulkhead and can easily be viewed from both settees. Moving aft one will find the galley to the port side. The galley has been built in a “U” shape to allow for easy access to all components. The Bosch refrigerator and freezer are located on the aft bulkhead of the galley. The galley is equipped with a Kohler double basin stainless sink as well as the following appliances: GE Cafe series microwave/convection oven with exhaust blower GE Cafe series 30” cooktop GE Cafe series 30” convection wall oven Bosch 800 series refrigerator with side by side fridge and freezer, stainless steel front GE Pacemaker 18” Dishwasher Isotherm front load freezer (laundry area) Opposite of the galley area lies the main electrical panel and the entrance to the private master cabin. Forward is the helm which has been equipped with everything an operator would need for a vessel of this size. Navigation and electronic equipment are listed below in the Navigation section. Visibility from this area is truly amazing and makes maneuvering the Nordhavn 59 an ease. Access to the private owner’s cabin is on the starboard side across from the galley, and down a flight of stairs. All other cabins are accessed forward of the helm and galley. Once downstairs there is a queen size berth with ample hanging locker and drawer storage. Port lights in the hull allow for natural light into the owner’s cabin. There are ventilation blowers to bring in fresh air to this area. Accessed thru the forward bulkhead in the owner’s cabin is the head, fully equipped with a spacious countertop with storage below, a Tecma toilet and a molded FRP shower. The comfort of the owner’s cabin is accentuated by the mid-ship location. With the cherry wood below and the lighter wall covering above the chair rail level, this roomy cabin feels light and airy. Access to the two guest cabins is forward down the centerline of the vessel. Down a few steps there is a forward landing area, from here – off to the starboard side – are the easily accessible full-size, side-by-side Bosch 800 Series washer and dryer discreetly tucked away. The port side of the landing is home to the guest head. The guest head can be accessed from the VIP directly, as well as from the forward landing. This is a full head with a nice vanity area, Tecma toilet and FRP molded shower. The forward VIP guest cabin is equipped with a queen berth, ample hanging locker and drawer space, as well as a 32″ TV hung on the aft bulkhead. Portlights in the hull allow for natural light and overhead Lewmar hatches allow for fresh air. Aft of the lower landing is access down a few steps to the bunk room, which will sleep four people between two single bunks & a large full size mattress. Both sides of this bunk room have portlights for natural light and ventilation blowers for fresh air, and plenty of storage. On to the exterior spaces on INDEPENDENCE. The flybridge is protected from the sun and elements with a canvas bimini and has a 4-sided canvas and isinglass removable enclosure, which is very pleasant to have in rainy or windy weather. On the flybridge there are two settees, one on each side facing inwards. There is also a center settee with the helm bench and seating facing aft with a fixed dinette table. INDEPENDENCE boasts a hinged radar arch which allows the vessel to decrease her air draft enough to make the “Great Loop” (19ft) or increase accessibility for boat house storage. The boat deck aft holds an AB ALX12 center console tender with a 25hp Yamaha outboard. There is a custom tender cover for this as well. To lift and retrieve this tender, there is an 800-pound capacity Steelhead davit. The starboard side has railing customized for a removable section which allows the davit to fold down farther, permitting easier launching and retrieving of the tender. The foredeck area on the 59 is a great lounge area. Sundeck cushions were custom made to fit this space and easily stowed inside while underway. The machinery spaces of the Nordhavn 59 INDEPENDENCE are accessed via the port side of the lower aft deck/ cockpit. One enters the aft portion of the engine room through a full size watertight Diamond Seaglaze door & down a few steps. Nearly all mechanics and technicians compliment this space once onboard. It is a truly massive area, and the full height headroom allows for easy access anywhere in the engine room. The two Cummins QSM11 715 HP engines stand proud in the middle of the engine room with space to access all four sides of the room and more. The Cummins/Onan 21.5kw generator is mounted centerline just aft of the engines. There are FRP molded storage lockers lining the port and starboard sides as well as on centerline above the workbench. All other components such as the Sea Recovery watermaker, Seaward water heater and Mach 5 fresh water pump all have the easily accessible homes in the Lazarette.
