2022 Old Town Sportsman MK 106

This custom Old Town Sportsman 106 MK motorized fishing kayak is loaded and ready for fishing lakes or coastal waters.  Everything is new and will be sold at 25% less than cost of the boat and the long list of high-end accessories.  The Malone kayak trailer is optional and holds two kayaks.  The trailer is titled in Texas.  This is the best fishing kayak of it’s ideal size.  It has been in the lake only once for two hours of testing.  It is being sold because my 75-year-old back decided to slip a disk as I worked in the yard.  

The boat is powered by a Minn Kota electric engine specifically designed for this kayak – a much sought-after personal fishing boat.  The engine swings up and locks above the deck for travel and can be removed for use with a paddle – and a cover for the space is mounted on the rear storage area.  The engine provides a 48-pound thrust and is rated to move the boat at 5 knots for 11 hours w/o recharging.  This remarkable level of power is provided by a new lightweight Dakota Lithium 100AH 12V battery.  The highly rated Dakota Lithium sold for $899 and is a very worthwhile upgrade.  The boat has a smooth electric forward and reverse throttle mounted starboard of the seat, and the charging lights are positioned in front of the throttle.  An extra prop and shear pin is provided with the boat.  The battery is directly hard-wired to the engine with a waterproof connection for removal of the 17-pound engine.

Steering is done with foot pedals and the seat is the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced.

The Garmin Ecomap UHD 74SV is a touchscreen chart plotter/SONAR combo with built-in Garmin CHIRP traditional, and UHD clear view and side scanning sonars.  It comes preloaded with Navionics of U.S. and Canadian lakes and coastal waters.  This system is independently powered with another Dakota Lithium 10AH 12V battery in a Dakota Lithium Powerbox 10.  The boat also has a Yak Power System to coordinate lighting and electronics.  This includes a waterproof switch mounted on the port side gunnel and controlling deck lights and the bow spotlight/navigation lights.  The hull on the Old Town 106 MK is carefully waterproofed to remain dry – with all points on possible leakage specifically waterproofed and sealed.  In the test ride and at the car wash that was satisfactorily tested.  The lights are also independently powered by another Dakota Lithium 10AH battery, also in a Dakota Powerbox 10.  The Powerboxes can be used as spotlights or floodlights for camping, fishing, or emergency situations.  They also provide use or charging ports for telephones.  These are another expensive ($249 each) but very effective upgrade.  Both are mounted on a teak wood frame made to support them within the hull.  All three lithium batteries come with battery chargers.

A stern flag/light is included and is stored in the hull if required.

The Wilderness System Storage Case is the best available product of its kind.  The device is divided into two compartments and secured with the heavy rubber latches common to bear-proof ice chests.  It is attached to the boat with sturdy straps to hold the case in place at any angle.  It has four rod holder which can be rearranged as required.

The (optional) new Malone trailer was modified to hold two kayaks – with bunks added (one specifically for the Old Town 106 MK).  Also added was a spare tire and a swing jack with wheel.  It has waterproof LED lights.  It can be pulled with just about any-sized vehicle with a trailer hitch.  The trailer is not for sale without the kayak.

The rod holder and the base for the Garmin are heavy duty snap-off mounts and can be easily removed for security etc.
