For anglers in search of a Hybrid Style Bay/Ocean hull that leans toward the open water arena, the 24H Carbon/Kevlar is a very attractive semi-custom option that combines nearshore fish-ability with offshore style in a roomy, comfortable, and very nice riding package. The deck configuration on this model features a traditional sunken cockpit around the console, back to the closed transom which is very practical for fishing in open water or offshore. The gunnel height and coaming bolster offer a comfortable place to brace legs against while fishing from a rocking boat, and 60-square feet of cockpit is roomy enough to allow free movement by multiple anglers. The forward casting deck is a wide open 65-square foot platform with wrap-around seating to the rear and two very large insulated holds beneath the deck (240-quart/140-quart). A wide beam (8' 8”) really gives this boat a roomy feel for a 24-footer and at no time will you feel cramped on her with 2-4 anglers. As an option for more deck space vs. storage space you can build this boat with one of three consoles. The “Deluxe” version is the largest and features a built in forward seat over an insulated drink cooler, the “Head Console” is large enough inside for a head but gives up the forward seat, and the “Guide” model is a smaller profile console that opens up the deck space around the entire center cockpit. All are offered with standard hard/T-top, Key West Guide Top, Half tower, or Full tower. The upper stations can also be rigged with Sea Star-Fly by Wire controls.
From a fishing standpoint this boat is ready to work. As a sight fishing platform she is super stable with a wide open roomy feel. The standard 50-gallon leaning post live-well is large enough for an all-day bait supply and a forward 15-gallon pitch well flanked by two recessed rod holders in the casting deck are perfect for a couple of rods loaded up to deploy a bait quickly. Rigged with a trolling motor and PowerPole(s) for inshore fishing this boat will also get you into roughly 13” of water in front of the Porta-Bracket mounted 300-HP engine and handled easily around the flats when we tested her. Standard features include ten (10) gunnel mounted rod holders, six (6) popup cleats, full bolster, fresh/raw water wash-downs, power steering and a PortaBracket on a 300-HP outboard. As a combination inshore/nearshore boat the Canyon Bay did not disappoint from the quality hardware, exterior finish, and functionality aspects, this boat was impossible not to like.
